Matreshka-Success

The idea behind opening the “Matreshka-Success” centre was simple: in an English–French environment, children lose their native language very quickly. We needed a place where Russian language stays alive — and where a child also feels at home. The heart of Daycare Matreshka is a comfortable atmosphere for a child’s growth. Here children learn to communicate, make friends, and work through conflicts, and they develop creativity through drawing, music, and theatre. At the same time we prepare them for school: letters, numbers, logical thinking, and later English lessons.

Over twenty years the centre has become a place Ottawa and Gatineau families still trust. At “Matreshka,” little ones from eighteen months live in Russian-speaking environment every day — speech, music, movement, and celebrations. We also run an after-school group with lunch, outdoor time, and theatre. In summer the camp opens, and the same children come back year after year. When our little ones grow older (from age 4), we welcome them to our Saturday school “Success.” The school program includes Russian language, literature/reading, math, music, dance, theatre club, and chess.

We believe every child is talented. What they need is a thoughtful program and adults who truly see them. That is why families stay: some arrived as parents and became teachers; some are already teaching a second generation.

If you are looking for a place where your native language is spoken and children are not rushed to “grow up” too soon — come see our daycare.
